Please google the 9fans archive. This error
allegedly is both harmless and easily fixable.

Bad install cd?
Can you try the install cd on another machine?
Try making another install cd?
Bad cd drive on the laptop?

Was the linux install cd made with the same
equipment and set up as whatever made the
plan9 install cd?
