plan 9 is better.
not prettier, but much more powerful. nextstep/openstep/(maxosX?)
suffers from the same problems of most GUIs - too many widgets, not
enough generality.

if you use plan 9 for a bit, you'll grow to like and rely upon its
sparsity and power.
